During Cerebral Palsy Awareness week this year we wish to draw attention to the challenges that adults and children with cerebral palsy face in accessing health services. Therapeutic interventions like physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy are important to ensure the optimal functioning of people with cerebral palsy. In our work in communities we find that people with cerebral palsy experience challenges in accessing these services.
The WCCPA will focus on facilitating access to:
- intervention therapies for children who are currently not receiving these services
- social development and counselling services for families who are experiencing challenges coping with their child with cerebral palsy
- community day programmes for people with cerebral palsy
- post school opportunities for children with cerebral palsy attending Schools for Learners with Special Education Needs
Should you know of any person or persons with cerebral palsy requiring assistance with any of the above, kindly contact the WCCPA offices on 021 685 4150.
